Which is safer, a menstrual cup or a tampon?

Both are used with inserts and residual chemical and fragrance can lead to allergic reactions, so they have medium risks. However, tampon use is associated with toxic shock syndrome. To lower this risk, the use of a tampon with the lowest absorbency required is recommended. On the other hand, since cups do not disrupt vaginal flora and pH, health risks like toxic shock syndrome, infections and skin irritations are minimal in comparison to other materials. Good hand hygiene is important for safe cup/tampon use.
